What does “Do It Expertly” mean?
Do it expertly is a saying that was used by my Grandfather, Walter Patrick, as he would encourage the members of our family to do their best. When I began writing publicly years ago, I knew this had to be the title or theme behind all of my writing. However, it was often pointed out as a misspelling or grammatical error when readers came across the phrase.
Let’s set the record straight… Telephone. Television. Tell the internet!
The phrase originated as my uncle prepared to leave home and head to VietNam. In their goodbyes, my Grandfather birthed the phrase. “Put first things first. Don’t take any unnecessary risks, and do it expertly.” With that sentence, he sent his young son off to Southeast Asia.
My uncle carried the phrase to VietNam and used it with fellow soldiers. Somehow…some way…The entire family began to pick up on it and it became part of the family tradition used to this day. And now, I bring it to you.
Do It Expertly will be filled with old Southern sayings, the occasional intentional misspelling, and grammatical error to present the reader with the feeling and hearing of a thick Georgia drawl. There will be stories. And more stories. But most of all, I pray you find encouragement as it points us all to the Truth that there is a God that loves us and wants to have a relationship with us.
I hope you enjoy reading. – Tommy
